Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
Mega-Dairies from Southern California are expanding their operations in Fresno without adequate public input or review. Large livestock operations are one of the largest sources of air and water pollution in the San Joaquin Valley. According to the Fresno Bee, 50 mega-dairies, with more than 50,000 cows, plan to move into Fresno County.
Air pollution and ground water contamination from mega-dairies pose a major risk to families' health and contribute to Fresno having the highest child asthma rates in the country. We join parents, doctors, faith leaders and others in asking our County Board of Supervisors to set reasonable standards for new mega-dairies to take steps that protect public health including:
*Ongoing Testing to ensure air and water quality
*Conditional Use Permits and Environmental Impact Reviews for individual new mega-dairies.
*Buffer Zones between mega-dairies and schools
*Best Available Control Technology
