Tell SEIU: Stick to real issues and stop the lies
Take action! SEIU has been trying to smear UHW with false allegations. SEIU’s International President Andy Stern and others are claiming UHW has not helped Inter-Con security officers at Kaiser Permanente facilities organize a union. Yet we’ve spent years working side-by-side with these officers in their fight for a union. It’s all part of SEIU’s attempt to avoid the real issues we’ve raised—fairness, union democracy, and member empowerment. Send him the letter below so that he knows you care about these real issues, not SEIU’s smear campaign.

Subject: Stick to real issues and stop the lies
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
Earlier this year, the elected leadership of United Healthcare Workers-West (UHW) opened up a debate within SEIU on how we grow while also strengthening member democracy. UHW proposed a Platform for Change and amendments to SEIU's constitution to guarantee members' democratic rights.
I was distressed to learn that SEIU's decision makers in Washington, D.C. have responded to these proposals with a smear campaign designed to discredit elected leaders and distract from UHW's efforts to create democratic reform within SEIU.
Andy Stern, it's time for SEIU to stop its smear campaign against UHW and join in an open and honest debate about the future of organized labor. I ask you to begin discussing the real issues I care about -- organizing more workers while strengthening member democracy, transparency, and member decision-making in bargaining and at all levels within SEIU.
Sincerely,
|
