Dear friend,

Last week I asked you to contact your Senators urging them to support the Levin-McCain amendment to cut funding for the F-22 Raptor from the defense authorization bill. Thanks to your emails and calls, the vote is expected to be extremely close.

We hear the vote will be sometime this week--and as early as today--so if you haven't yet, please take a moment to contact your Senators and tell them to vote YES on the Levin-McCain amendment. Tell them you support the recommendations of two secretaries of Defense, two Presidents, three chairmen of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the current secretary and chief of staff of the Air Force, and at least 20 editorial pages across the country to stop buying F-22s. Urge them to keep the funds in programs that will help our troops, rather than wasting our taxpayer dollars on a fighter jet that the Pentagon doesn't even want. And remind them that buying more F-22s means choosing a corrupt procurement system over our national security needs.

We've found over the past week that our meetings and calls with Senate offices are making a big difference. It's letting Senators know that we're paying attention and care deeply about this vote. As Defense Secretary Robert Gates recently said, "If we can't get this right, what on earth can we get right? It is time to draw the line on doing defense business as usual."

Thanks for all your help!
