Dear friend,
I'm writing to you today with an urgent request.
The Senate is scheduled to vote tomorrow morning on an
amendment to strip additional funding for the F-22. This
is an absolutely critical vote. Defense Secretary Robert Gates and President Obama have both argued that
procuring more F-22s will actually threaten our national
defense. But despite the objections from the Pentagon and the
White House, some Senators are bowing to defense contractor
lobbying, and are trying to use "smoke and mirror"
budgeting tactics that will deplete funds from other necessary
programs in order to buy more F-22s.
We now have a unique opportunity to eliminate funding for
additional F-22s--but we need your help!
Please take a moment to contact your Senators and
tell them to vote YES on the Levin-McCain amendment to strip
funding for additional F-22s from the FY 2010 National Defense
Authorization Act. Tell your Senators that you want
your taxpayer dollars to be spent on defense programs that will
help our troops, rather than wasting the money on an
exorbitantly priced fighter jet that the Pentagon doesn't even
want. Adding more F-22s means choosing a corrupt procurement
system over our national security needs.

your Senators.
For more background, be sure to check out POGO's F-22 fact sheet. POGO also sent two letters to the Senate last week raising
concerns about the Pentagon's procurement process and calling
for the elimination of additional F-22 funding.
Thanks for your help!
