Hello! Please take a moment and comment on the inadequate and premature draft leasing regulation the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) released in late August by clicking here. As high fuel prices affect more people each day, some politicians in Washington would like us to believe oil shale is the answer to rising fuel costs. Yet industry leaders and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) admit that oil shale development is decades away. It is inappropriate for leasing regulations to be established before adequate research and development has been completed. TAKE ACTION NOW - Please click
here to comment on the proposed regulations.
Unfortunatly, the BLM has rushed into finalizing thier assessment of the impacts we could face from mass oil shale development in rural Colorado. In late July, the BLM released a draft plan for oil shale development in the west that spurred nearly 100,000 citizens, community leaders, and elected officials to cry foul. This outrage ensued due to the fact that we have no idea what technology will be used and no clue of the impacts to water, air, wildlife and local economies. The BLM has rushed forward with a final plan not heeding the wishes of those who have the most to lose.
