Voter Registration Bill
These bills relate to voter rights for those who have served their sentence for a crime, yet still have a legal financial obligation to fulfill. The House bill (HB1517) has been 'gutted' and should NOT be supported, though the Senate bill (SB5534) should be supported. Contact Speaker Chopp's office and urge him to state his support for SB5534 to Sen. Lisa Brown, the Senate majority leader. (The Senate bill will not be voted on until Speaker Chopp declares his support for the Senate bill to Senate majority leader, Brown.) Also, contact your state representatives.

Subject: Support SB5534 - Voter Registration
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
I urge you NOT to support the House bill (HB1517), but to support the Senate bill (SB5534) and let Speaker Chopp know that you want his support for this Senate bill. People who have served their sentence for their crime should be able to vote without having to have paid ALL their restitution to their victim (aka 'Legal Financial Obligation').
Sincerely,
|
