Have you heard about teens who turn to the medicine cabinet to get high? Did you know that abusing over-the-counter (OTC) or prescription medicines can be as dangerous as abusing illegal street drugs?

According to the Partnership for a Drug-Free America, nearly one in five teenagers has intentionally abused prescription medicine and one in 10 has abused over-the-counter cough medicines to get high.

StopMedicineAbuse.org, developed by the leading makers of OTC cough medicines, is a web site designed to educate families about this important issue. The site provides a number of valuable tools, including:

-A guide to talking with your kids about the problem
-Information on how to recognize the signs of abuse
-Tools for telling other parents about the risks
-A quiz to test your knowledge

StopMedicineAbuse.org is also the home of the Five Moms: Stopping Cough Medicine Abuse campaign, which connects parents with other parents in order to share information about this substance abuse behavior and how to prevent it.
