A 40-day Reflection on our Relationship with God's Creation

Tuesday
March 10, 2009

From everyone to whom much has been given, much will be required; and from the one to whom much has been entrusted, even more will be demanded. - Luke 12:48

We have been entrusted with the care of all creation, but many of our daily activities contribute one way or another to emissions of carbon dioxide, which are a major factor in global warming.  The United States is the largest per capita producer of carbon dioxide emissions in the world—we comprise about 4% of the world’s population, but produce more than 25% of greenhouses gases emitted by our use of fossil fuels to power our homes, cars and businesses.  Over the last two weeks we’ve reflected on how each of us can individually reduce our emissions.  It’s important that each of us does our part, and important, also, that we act together within our local communities and as a nation to address global warming.  Since we contribute more as a nation to the problem, we also bear a great responsibility to contribute to the solution.
