As part of the Omnibus Public Lands Management Act passed this past spring, both Rocky Mountain National Park and Dominguez-Escalante National Conservation Area and Dominguez Canyons Wilderness are a reality!

President Barak Obama signed new wilderness areas into law on March 30, 2009, ensuring permanent protection for hundreds of thousands of Colorado's pristine backcountry!

Both conservation efforts have been hard-fought for many years; this was truly a momentous occasion for conservation in Colorado!

Several members of Colorado's delegation were instrumental in creating the new wilderness areas: Senators Mark Udall and Michael Bennet supported the measures as did Representatives John Salazar, Betsy Markey, Jared Polis, Diana DeGette, and Ed Pearlmutter.

As we celebrate 45 years of Wilderness, it is very important to let your legislators know their efforts to protect wild Colorado are appreciated!

Subject: Thank you for Wilderness!

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

Thank you for your efforts to ensure we are protecting wilderness areas in Colorado. Rocky Mountain National Park and Dominguez Canyons are treasured Colorado landscapes. Your work to protect these places is much appreciated!

Colorado boasts an abundance of natural resources. Wilderness protects our wildlife, our water and the opportunity to experience landscapes as they were created. By managing landscapes as wilderness we -- as a nation -- are saying we value maintaining precious landscapes for future generations to enjoy.

Thank you for your ongoing efforts to protect our treasured wild places!

Sincerely,
