In his first few weeks in his new office, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar has helped restore science to public land management. He was also made it a priority to ensure that public lands which possess unique ecologic or cultural value remain available to hunters, hikers, scientific researchers and other outdoor enthusiasts. And – perhaps most importantly – he has put the brakes on a reckless rush to develop oil shale in the west.
Secretary Salazar's knows that currently-available technologies are not suitable for developing this resource, and he is working to ensure that any future steps to develop oil shale will require sound research regarding its environmental and economic impacts before it moves forward. He deserves a big THANK YOU for the level-headed approach he is taking toward the dirtiest fuel on the planet!
Please take a moment to thank Secretary Salazar for his responsible and pragmatic approach in the first several weeks of his service. Also, please let him now that you support his continued efforts to "go slow" on oil shale.

Subject: Thank you for supporting common-sense approach to oil shale development!
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
During the first few weeks of your post you have shown remarkable leadership in demonstrating that agriculture, wildlife, water and other recreational uses of the land -- including fishing and hunting -- must be considered and protected before moving forward with any oil shale leasing. I appreciate your efforts in taking a pragmatic and responsible approach to any oil shale development.
Thank you for your leadership on this issue. Please continue to follow the cautious approach you've taken so far.
Sincerely,
|
