As part of the Omnibus Public Lands Management Act passed this past spring, both Rocky Mountain National Park and Dominguez-Escalante National Conservation Area and Dominguez Canyons Wilderness are a reality!

President Barak Obama signed new wilderness areas into law on March 30, 2009, ensuring permanent protection for hundreds of thousands of Colorado's pristine backcountry!

Both conservation efforts have been hard-fought for many years; this was truly a momentous occasion for conservation in Colorado!

Several members of Colorado's delegation were instrumental in creating the new wilderness areas: Senators Mark Udall and Michael Bennet supported the measures as did Representatives John Salazar, Betsy Markey, Jared Polis, Diana DeGette, and Ed Pearlmutter.

As we celebrate 45 years of Wilderness, it is very important to let your legislators know their efforts to protect wild Colorado are appreciated!
