| Secretary Salazar visiting Colorado in April, 2009 © CEC |
In his first few weeks in his new office, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar has helped restore science to public land management. He was also made it a priority to ensure that public lands which possess unique ecologic or cultural value remain available to hunters, hikers, scientific researchers and other outdoor enthusiasts. And – perhaps most importantly – he has put the brakes on a reckless rush to develop oil shale in the west.
Secretary Salazar's knows that currently-available technologies are not suitable for developing this resource, and he is working to ensure that any future steps to develop oil shale will require sound research regarding its environmental and economic impacts before it moves forward. He deserves a big THANK YOU for the level-headed approach he is taking toward the dirtiest fuel on the planet!
Please take a moment to thank Secretary Salazar for his responsible and pragmatic approach in the first several weeks of his service. Also, please let him now that you support his continued efforts to "go slow" on oil shale.
