The short explanation of this alert was:

water running highOn October 30th, the US Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) released the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for Denver Water's Proposed Moffat Collection System Project (Moffat), and scheduled four meetings for soliciting public comment.

The Moffat Project proposes pumping 18,000 acre-feet of water annually (more than 5.5 billion gallons) from the headwaters of Colorado River, to serve residents on the Front Range. The water will come out of the Fraser River, a river that has already seen significant dewatering. Without the proper environmental protections, this project could push the Fraser to the breaking point.

The DEIS is over 2,000 pages and includes a host of technical reports to sift through. To ensure that meaningful, substantive comments can be given we need more time to review the documents and explore what the impacts might mean to the Fraser River. In the coming weeks we'll keep you posted about public meetings and ways to submit your comments, but right now we need help requesting a comment extension from the Corps!
