Colorado Environmental Coalition.
The short explanation of this alert was:
New oil and gas protections passed during the 2009 legislature established critical public health and wildlife protections for Colorado. These protections are a common sense and balanced approach and were the result of thousand of hours of hard work across the state.
Representative Kathleen Curry, District 61 and Chair of the House Natural Resources and Agriculture Committee, has helped to lead legislative efforts in our state to ensure that the “boom-bust cycle” that accompanies some energy development doesn’t harm the environment, our economy, and the vitality of our communities.
With the downturn in drilling, many are claiming that the new protections are driving business out of state. The reality is the drop in natural gas prices, and the global recession, have had the biggest impact on oil and gas development in Colorado.
Rep. Curry’s understanding of natural resources, oil and gas, agriculture, property rights, ranching, water rights, and economic development issues played a critical role in ensuring that the we continue to have a healthy energy industry on the Western Slope.
Send her a thank you note for her involvement today!
