The short explanation of this alert was:

On February 8, the Illinois Olmstead Implementation Act was introduced in the Senate (SB 470) by Senator Maggie Crotty. The bill's introduction represents a huge step forward for people with disabilities and seniors who, for years, have been working to enforce our right to choose community-based living.

Last year, 30 State Senators signed a pledge of support for the Illinois Olmstead Implementation Act. Now that the bill has been introduced, we need all 30 of those Senators to add their name to the bill as a co-sponsor.

Please email your State Senator TODAY and tell them to sign on to SB 470 with this easy to use advocacy system. A template letter is provided for your convenience. All you have to do is enter your home mailing address, edit the letter BELOW to your satisfaction, and then hit send. It's that easy!

We are all busy, but please make this a priority. The lives of hundreds of thousands of people with disabilities and seniors in Illinois are at stake here, perhaps even the life of one of your friends, loved ones, or yourself some day.

Legislators have already started receiving stacks of letters from opponents of the Illinois Olmstead Implementation Act. THEY MUST HEAR OUR STORIES TOO. People with disabilities and seniors deserve THE RIGHT to live among family, friends, and loved ones in communities of our own choosing, and NOTHING must stop us until that right is a REALITY in Illinois!
