Two-Day Symposium - April 28th - 29th
Washington, DC

Samuel DeWitt Proctor Conference is pleased to collaborate with the Howard Univ. School of Divinity, the Andrew Rankin Memorial Chapel, Central Atlantic Conference and Potomac Association, United Church of Christ and the Progressive National Baptist Convention.

Day One (April 28th): 
Crisis and Calling – For Such a Time As This – Where Do We Go From Here?

Day One begins with breakfast (8:00 a.m.) at the National Press Club, 529 14th Street, NW, Washington, DC. The Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr. will address the prophetic tradition exemplified by his ministry and work that are at the center of the current political firestorm. Only a limited amount of tickets are available.  Please click here to buy tickets.

Following the National Press Club, we will sponsor a much-needed Teach-In and Ecumenical Worship Service, from Noon to 8:00 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church, 1510 9th Street, NW, Washington, DC.

Day One presenters include Dr. John Kinney, Dr. Katie G. Cannon, Dr. Dwight Hopkins, Dr. Bernice Powell Jackson, Dr. Delores Carpenter, Dr. Otis Moss, Jr., Dr. Yvonne Delk and Dr. Frederick D. Haynes III.

Day Two (April 29th):
Critique and Community – The Prophetic Tradition and Religious Leadership in the
African American Community

Day Two, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., will be held at the Howard University School of Divinity, 1400 Shepherd Street, NE, Washington, DC 20017.

Day Two presenters include Dr. Dennis Wiley, Dr. Alton Pollard III, Professor Ian Straker, Dr. Alice Ogden Bellis  and others.

The nominal fee for the two-day symposium is $30.00 and includes the fellowship dinner at Shiloh Baptist Church on Monday, April 28, 2008.  Seating at The National Press Club Breakfast is limited and costs $35.00, thus, we can only accommodate a minimal number of guests. However, we hope to see everyone at the symposium. 

There are no costs associated with participation in day two of the symposium at Howard.
